Chandigarh – A collective of panth sewaks addressed the Indian state’s ongoing security operations in Punjab and stated that the Indian state is intentionally trying to create a tense and fearful atmosphere in Punjab. Given the manner in which mobile communications and Internet have been shut down while security forces arrest Sikh naujawan across Punjab, it is clear that the Indian state is executing its strategy to craft and impose a narrative against Sikhs and Punjab across the subcontinent. By completely ignoring its own procedures and processes to arrest Sikh naujawan, the Indian state is clearly exceeding all limits to demonize Sikhs, demonstrate the full extent of its power, and create an atmosphere of fear.
Members of the collective noted that the security operations over the last few days are the next phase of the Indian state’s strategy to isolate and target Sikhs in response to the capacity, influence, and strength demonstrated by Sikhs in the subcontinent and around the world during the pandemic and the Kisaan Sangarsh.
They reiterated that the Indian state has been terrified in recent years by the political capital and capacity demonstrated by Sikhs and Punjab, as well as the growing political consciousness demonstrated by Sikh naujawan today. In response to this, Indian agencies are intentionally creating instability in Punjab in order to repress political mobilization and justify their violent actions.
Members of the collective said that the Punjab government is operating as a front for the Delhi administration in this anti-Sikh initiative. They went on to note that the timing of these operations was planned at a time when members of the G20 are currently in Punjab, illustrating that the Indian state is seeking to demonize Punjab and Sikhs to a domestic and international audience simultaneously.
The collective concluded that while the state is on the offensive, it is imperative that we maintain discipline, focus, and ensure internal cooperation. To achieve this, Sikh activists and organizations must develop a common understanding of the circumstances as well as a collective strategy to confront the current onslaught so that we can stop the Punjab government’s attempts at arresting our naujawan at the behest of the centre, stop any mistreatment of those in custody, and ultimately, ensure that they are released immediately.
The Khalsa Panth has always persevered through every obstacle and challenge through the support of the Guru. The path to combating or current challenges today similarly lies in returning to our roots and traditions, ensuring our individual lives and collective activism are rooted in Gurmat, and remaining steadfast in our faith in Guru Granth-Guru Panth.
