No Punjab Bandh call so far, clarifies Damandeep Singh Khalsa

December 7, 2013 | By

Bhai Damandeep Singh Khalsa, a 26 years old Sikh youth from Ludhaina, who has initiated hunger protest / fast unto death at Gurdwara Amb Sahib Mohali, after the arrest of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has clarified that no Punjab bandh (Punjab shut-down) call has been given by the organizers of the morcha.

Yesterday it was noticed by Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that some posters were in circulation over Facebook asking people of observe Punjab bandh on December 09 and thereby support the struggle initiated for securing release of Sikh prisoners who are languishing in Indian jails despite serving full terms of their sentences.

But SSN realized that the posters were misleading as the organizers of the morcha told SSN reporters that no such bandh call was given by them and they were unaware about the posters calling upon people to observe strike/shutdown on December 09.

Now Bhai Damandeep Singh Khalsa has also clarified through a Facebook status that no call for Punjab bandh is issued from the morcha front.

“Punjab band da koyi elyaan nahi hoya …” reads the status updated by Bhai Damandeep Singh over Facebook around 9 pm on December 06.

It is notable that the social-media networks had turned a hub of rumours earlier this year when the suspected execution of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was in focus. Many people had spread a rumour about jail transfer of Bhai Balwant Singh to Tihar Jail. Some were even ‘reporting’ that he was executed in secrecy at Tihar Jail. This had cause much confusion among the Sikhs.

Social-media is a good source of spreading the information but one must cross check any suspicious or sensations information from some credible sources before believing or acting upon it.
