July 11, 2016 | By

Srinagar: Asserting that participation of thousands of people in the funeral of Hizb commander Burhan Wani is a “clear referendum”, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Government of India (GoI) should see writing on the wall that India can’t oppress Kashmir through its military might.

While paying rich tributes to Burhan Wani, Geelani said the presence of a sea of people at the his funeral is in itself a clear referendum and appealed the international community to respect the freedom sentiments of people of Kashmir and play its role to implement right to self determination and shun double standards and double speak in regard with Kashmir.

He asked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his advisors to read the writings on the wall that India cannot oppress Kashmir through its military might and could not win over the hearts of the people of Kashmir and is never possible in future too.

Condemning the killing of peaceful demonstrators by the forces, Geelani expressed his anguish and pain over the killings.

He said Indian forces and some police officials are targeting the youth to create a hostile environment in Kashmir.
While saluting the courage of Burhan and his associates, Geelani said his martyrdom would be a milestone in the struggle of Kashmir and it has entered a new era of freedom movement.

“The Indian media and New Delhi have been calling Burhan and other militants as ‘terrorists’ but now it has proven that they are the real heroes of Kashmir and Kashmir’s struggle has nothing to do with terrorism,” he said adding “What the Indian forces are doing here is terrorism”.

Geelani said that a terrorist is one who fights against the people. “However, Burhan fought and sacrificed himself for the people and their better future. Burhan’s killing has proven that the struggle for freedom is holy and is justified as the whole nation supports it”.

The Hurriyat (G) chairman held Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and RSS equally responsible for the murder of people. “Mehbooba could not conduct the inquiry in the killings of 2010 which she had condemned then and had also sought resignation from Omar Abdullah blaming him for the murder of hundreds of youth”.

Geelani asked the international community to take strong notice of the genocide happening in Kashmir as the life of people is in danger here.
