Patiala: As per the media reports Sikh political prisoner Harminder Singh Mintto accused in a February 2010 case related to buying of weapons and detonators, was here on Wednesday acquitted by additional District and Sessions Judge RS Hundal.
He was claimed to be in Pakistan by the security agencies when the case was registered against him at Nabha in 2010.
It was on February 21, 2010, the Patiala police had arrested Jasbir Singh and Gurjant Singh after their car hit a police checkpost in Nabha. A few weapons and detonators were reportedly seized from the car. Subsequently, the two were convicted and imprisoned for five years, media reports said.
Furthermore, the Punjab Police also implicated Harminder Singh Mintoo in the case, alleging that he had facilitated the purchase of weapons and detonators through hawala transactions, notes The Tribune (TT).
He was facing two cases registered against him at Sadar police station, in May this year he was acquitted in the bomb planting case by a local court and the second was pertaining to Hawala money for the same mission.
Even after getting clean chit in these aforesaid cases Harminder Singh Minto is still subsequently facing 11 other cases across Punjab. He was arrested from Delhi airport in 2014 after he reportedly returned from Malaysia where he supposedly set up a module to gather support for the pro-freedom cause.
