The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), long dominated by the Badal dynasty, has significantly lost credibility within the Sikh community. Likewise, the reputation of the Takht Sahibaan and their Jathedars has declined under the current system. This erosion of trust has sparked serious introspection among Sikhs and growing calls for meaningful reforms to restore the credibility and sanctity of these key institutions.
One of the prominent ideas gaining traction is the establishment of an autonomous system for the Takht Sahibaan—one that operates independently of the SGPC or any other statutory body. However, a major question remains: how can this be effectively achieved?
To explore various perspectives on this issue, Sikh Siyasat is presenting a series of discussions focusing on the current state of the SGPC, the governance of the Takht Sahibaan, and the processes for appointing and removing Jathedars.
In previous episodes, journalist Mandeep Singh interviewed a range of voices, including former Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh (Panthic Akali Lehar), Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala (Sikh Sadbhavna Dal), Bhai Narien Singh Chaura, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, S. Karnail Singh Panjoli, Sikh historian Prof. Sukhdial Singh, and former Jathedar of Takht Kesgarh Sahib Prof. Manjeet Singh.
In this episode, he engages in a thoughtful conversation with former Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Kewal Singh.
