Gurmukhi script history

Language and script are fundamental to the identity and continuity of any civilization, culture, or society. After the British annexed Punjab in 1849, they systematically targeted the Punjabi language and the Gurmukhi script as part of their colonial policy.
As part of Sikh Siyasat's special series on the origins of the Punjabi language, journalist Mandeep Singh speaks with S. Bikkar Singh about his extensive research and findings. S. Bikkar Singh maintains that the concept of zero was invented in the Punjab region of the subcontinent. To support this claim, he cites several rare historical records he accessed during his research.
