Three from Punjab held hostage in Libya

Ludhiana: Three persons from Punjab are allegedly held ‘hostage’ in Libya by their employers. Their families have alleged that the their employers are holding them hostage, torturing them and not providing them food and medication.

As per media reports Sarbjit Singh (25) of Latala village, Titu Bansal (60) of Bowani village and Malkiat Singh (26) of Ghaloti – all from Ludhiana district — were welders and they had left for Libya on April 28.

The distraught families have alleged that not only the passports of the three were seized by officials of the company, but they were also being deprived of food and medication.

he families and the International Human Rights Organisation have sought the intervention of Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for the immediate rescue of the three.

Jaspreet Singh Sidhu, president of the International Human Rights Organisation, said he had taken up the matter with the office of the Union External Affairs Minister. “We have sought immediate release of the three as their lives are in danger,” said Sidhu. He said he had received videos of the three being treated badly by company officials.
