Understanding the Controversy Surrounding the Wakf Amendment Act? Why Muslims Are Oppoing New Act?

The Union Government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, has passed a new law titled the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, introducing changes to the existing Waqf laws in the country.

The legislation has sparked controversy, with members of the Muslim community opposing it, calling it “anti-Muslim.” In contrast, the BJP-led Union Government has hailed it as a historic reform, claiming that the new law aims to address long-standing issues in the current system and enhance transparency and efficiency in the functioning of the Waqf Boards.

However, opposition parties and Muslim leaders strongly disagree with the government’s stance, arguing that the new law constitutes unwarranted and unjustified interference in religious and community institutions.

To understand the issue in greater depth, journalist Mandeep Singh spoke with Maulana Muhammad Usman Rehmani Ludhianvi, the Shahi Imam of Punjab. Watch this exclusive interview and share it with others.
