Panchkula: In a setback for Gurmeet Ram Rahim – a controversial godman and chief of Dera Sauda Sirsa, the special CBI court in Panchkula on Saturday (Nov. 29) issued non-bailable warrants against one of the defence witnesses in sexual abuse case registered against dera Sauda chief.
While issuing non-bailable warrants for Tek Chand Sethi, the special CBI Judge R K Yadav fixed 6 December as the next date of hearing in the case. The court also fixed December 6 as the next date of hearing in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatterpati in which dera chief is the main accused.
Tek Chand Sethi’s evidence had been recorded during the last hearing and prosecution counsel was to cross examine him on Saturday. As he did not turn up for the court hearing despite being bound to attend the next date, the court issued his to ensure his appearance. Meanwhile, the dera counsel moved another application seeking its permission to testify four more defense witnesses in the case of sexual abuse which was also turned down.
According to information, the dera chief appeared in the court on Saturday through video conferencing and the hearing lasted for over two hours in the case. In a bid to expedite the trial in case of sexual abuse made out against the dera head, the CBI court had pruned the list of 98 witnesses given by him in his defence following the agency’s probe into the matter.
