According to India Today “Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee member Sant Gurmeet Singh Tirloke Wala, who was also injured, has appealed to the people to maintain peace and not to believe in rumours”.

The incident reportedly took place near Balmiki Chowk when followers of Dera Sauda Sirsa (DSS) clashed with some Sikhs who were on their way back from a meeting in Gurdwara Dashmi Patshahi, police said.

According to Hindustan Times (HT) the town was on the edge since November 19, when a man named Jasvir Singh was injured in a Sikh-dera clash at Jiwan Nagar locality here. Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Khalsa, president of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha, had called for shutdown over the matter here on Saturday but deferred the plan for a fortnight after speaking with the district administration.

The district administration has called 15 units of paramilitary force to maintain law and order. All the injured are under treatment in a government hospital.

There are reports that Punjab police have put on alert the sensitive areas in Bathinda and Mansa districts of Punjab.

There are reports that heavy police force is being deployed at Bathinda and Mansa districts, considered to be sensitive in this matter, to avoid any untoward incident as the clash may lead to tension in the area.

“Meanwhile” according to Hindustan Times (HT) “Simranjeet Singh Mann, president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), and general secretary Gursewak Singh Jawaharke have termed the clash a ‘deep-rooted’ conspiracy of the Centre against the Sikh community”.

“The intelligence agencies of the central government – IB (Intelligence Bureau) and RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) – are giving protection to the dera against the Sikhs, they alleged” (as per HT).

“I have also demanded from Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hood and chief secretary to get the dera searched after deploying army as dangerous activities are going on in there,” Mann is reported to have claimed by HT.
