SBS Nagar/Balachaur: On the occasion of Sathapna Divas (Foundation Day) of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Panth Sewak Jatha Doaba released a document addressed to the Guru Khalsa Panth and the wider Gur Sangat, raising serious concerns about the ongoing political maneuverings and institutional instability surrounding Sri Akal Takht Sahib and other Takht Sahibaan.

The statement highlighted the intensifying confusion and erosion of credibility facing Khalsa Panth’s apex institution in recent times. It pointed out that under sustained pressure from the Gur Sangat, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) recently made an appeal to Sikh organizations, institutions, scholars, and intellectuals for suggestions regarding the appointment, dismissal, role, and working method of Jathedars, as well as for framing a proper legal and procedural structure for their functioning.

While welcoming the SGPC’s appeal as a positive step, the Panth Sewak Jatha Diaba asserted that it is a “delayed and inadequate” move. The document clearly stated: We have already lost the opportunity for resolution through gradual reformist steps. The current moment does not demand individual corrections, but rather, structural transformations.

The document reflects a view that the Sikh community has already paid the price for not addressing institutional challenges earlier. It asserts that the Panth must now move beyond symbolic or superficial gestures and work toward systemic overhaul of Sikh religious governance.

The Jatha has submitted these recommendations not only to the SGPC but more importantly has placed them before the Guru Khalsa Panth and the global Gur Sangat, emphasizing that any reform of Akal Takht Sahib and Takht Sahibaan must be rooted in Panthic will and not limited to administrative committees.

Prominent individuals present during the occasion included Jathedar Jarnail Singh, Jathedar Diljit Singh Maula, Bhai Mandhir Singh, Master Bakhshish Singh, Master Beant Singh, Kulwinder Singh Babbar Majara, Dhadhi Satnam Singh Bharapur, Tilakraj Singh Chhalkalan, Avtar Singh Jagatpur, Jatinder Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Gurnam Singh Simbal Majara, Bagicha Singh Dogarpur, Mohan Singh Mirpur Jattan, and Advocate Rajyog Singh Majara Jattan.
