Saka Nakodar 1986 – 34 Years of Struggle for Justice

Jalandhar: On the 4th February 1986, Sikh Student Federation (SSF) members gathered in Nakodar to collect the Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which were desecrated and burnt in Shri Guru Arjan Dev Gurudwara, Nakodar on 2nd February 1986. The police opened fire at this unarmed and peaceful gathering of Sikhs. By this unprovoked and unjustified firing by police, Bhai Ravinder Singh Littran, Bhai Harminder Singh Sham Chaluper, Bhai Baldhir Singh Fauji and Bhai Jhalman Singh Rajowal Gorcian, were killed.

Bapu Baldev Singh and Mata Baldeep Kaur, parents of Shaheed Bhai Ravinder Singh Littran, have been pursuing struggle to secure justice for Saka Nakodar 1986 for past 34 years. Parents of other Shaheed Singhs’ have passed away while waiting for justice.

Bapu Baldev Singh and Mata Baldeep Singh, along with Bibi Rajwinder Kaur (sister of Shaheed Jhalman Singh), Bibi Karamjit Kaur (sister of Shaheed Baldhir Singh) addressed a press conference at Press Club Jalandhar on 4th of February 2020. They were joined by Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra (patron of Khalra Mission Organisation), Human Rights lawyer Barrister Satnam Singh Bains, Writer and Editor S. Gurbachan Singh, S. Paramjit Singh Mand (President of Sikh Youth of Punjab), S. Sukhdev Singh Phagwara (Alliance for Sikh Organisations) and Parmjeet Singh (Editor of Sikh Siyasat News).

In this press conference Bapu Baldev Singh narrated the story of their struggle and said that they need nothing, except that the government bring forth the truth by releasing full report of Justice Gurnam Singh Inquiry Commission that was appointed to investigate the Nakodar police firing incident of 4 February 1986, and further that the culprits of the firing incident are brought to justice.
