Frankfurt, Germany: Sikh organizations in Germany have announced a peaceful protest to be held outside the Indian Consulate in Frankfurt on August 15, India’s Independence Day. The protest will take place from 12 PM to 3 PM, as per a statement issued by Bhai Gurmeet Singh Khunian on behalf of the Panthic groups.
According to the statement, Sikh men and women participating in the demonstration will wear black turbans and black scarves, respectively, to symbolically express their dissent.
The organizers said the protest is being held to highlight the historical and ongoing injustices faced by the Sikh community in India. “At the time of the 1947 partition and power transfer, Sikhs suffered immense losses, but the Indian leadership failed to fulfill the promises made to the Sikh community,” the statement said.
It further added that over the past seven decades, Sikhs have continuously struggled in various forms in India, while the Indian state has adopted discriminatory and repressive policies against them.
According to the organizers, the protest on August 15 is intended to raise awareness about Sikh concerns and to urge the emergence of a Sikh government that represents the aspirations of the community.
