Bathinda, Punjab (May 17, 2014): Singer-actor Jasraj Singh Longia alias Jassi Jasraj ended up at third place in a battle that was totally occupied by contest between Badal clan’s heavy weight Harsimrat Badal and family rebel Manpreet Badal, who was contesting election on Congress party’s symbol.
Jassi Jasraj, who was in run for Aam Aadmi Party’s ticket from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, was granted AAP ticket from Bathinda. Former Director General of Police (Prisons) Shashi Kant was also in run to get AAP ticket from Bathinda constituency and he (Shashi Kant) was considered to be a strong candidate than Jassi Jasraj. But at the last moment AAP announced ticket for Jassi Jasraj.
Jassi Jasraj ended up at third place with 87,901 votes. Bathinda elections was overshadowed by the contest between Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal’s wife Harsimrat Badal and her brother in law Manpreet Badal.
It seems that Jassi Jasraj proved game spoiler for Manpreet Badal who gave tough fight to Harsimrat. Manpreet Badal lost the Bathinda seat with a margin of just 19,395 votes, as he was able to secure more than 4.95 lakh (4,95,332) votes.
