Amritsar: On 19 November 2025, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) reported that YouTube has suspended its official channel, “SGPC, Sri Amritsar” (@sgpcsriamritsar), for one week. The suspension was imposed this evening during the livestream of the daily Rehras Sahib recitation.

YouTube’s action was reportedly triggered by a previously uploaded video dated October 31, 2025, in which a Sikh preacher discussed Sikh warriors and referenced historical events linked to 1984—material the SGPC describes as part of Sikh religious and historical discourse. YouTube reportedly took action against the video under its policy guidelines.

The SGPC has stated that it is currently engaging with YouTube to convey its position and seek a resolution. Until the issue is resolved, the SGPC has urged the Sikh sangat to join the daily live Gurbani Kirtan broadcast from Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib through its second official channel: “Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee” (@officialsgpc).

This incident comes at a time when, according to digital rights observers and Sikh advocacy groups, there has been a noticeable rise in restrictions on Sikh-related social media content. These concerns include instances of direct takedowns, channel blocks ordered by government agencies, and removals justified under platform policy violations, which community advocates argue disproportionately impact Sikh historical, political, and religious expression online. While these trends vary across platforms, they have intensified ongoing debates around digital rights, freedom of expression, and the preservation of minority religious content in the online space.
