Amritsar, Punjab (March 12, 2014): As per inforamtion available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh released Nanakshahi calendar for the year 2014-15 on March 11. It is notable that no further changes were made in the calendar that was originally adopted in 2003 but was amended in 2010.

Senior members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also attended the release ceremony at Amritsar.

Arguing that all religious and social organisations of the faith should accept the calendar as official almanac, the jathedar said the Akal Takht was yet to decide on the requests for amendments.

Sant Samaj that was able to secure 2010 amendment has been favouring reverting the Nankshahi calendar to the Bikrami calendar, arguing that the Nanakshahi calendar, though revised in 2010, was still unacceptable to Sant Samaj.

On the other hand various Sikh bodies, including Dal Khalsa, American Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee and other sections of the Sikh diaspora want Akal Takht to withdraw 2010 amendment, so that the original version of the calendar could be revived.
