Five-Year-Old Ropar Boy Becomes Punjab’s Youngest To Scale Mount Everest Base Camp

Chandigarh:- At a tender age of 5 years, Teghbir Singh, has achieved a remarkable feat – he has become the youngest ever of Punjab to scale the Mount Everest Base Camp, which is located in Nepal at a staggering height of more than 17,500 feet (5364 Metres).

A 1st standard student at Shiwalik Public School Ropar, Teghbir started the Trek to Everest Base Camp on 9th April and walked all along to reach Base Camp on 17th April, 2024.
It is worth mentioning here that it is a low Oxygen trek and one needs preparation to tackle problems associated with Altitude Sickness. However, conquering all these challenges, he finally reached the place, normal temperature of which is -12 Celsius.
Delighted over the pathbreaking achievement, he said over phone in short words, “I knew where I was to reach and finally I reached and had a picture with my father there“.
“I was told to enchant Waheguru on being tired and I did that. It helped me scale Mount Everest Base Camp“, he added.
“Teghbir started preparing for this feat almost a year back. He was trained by Mr Bikramjit Singh Ghuman (Retired Coach ) who used to help him with the exercises related to increase Cardiovascular Health and Increase Lung capacity to deal with Altitude Sickness. He used to go on weekly treks with his father and coach to different hilly locations”, said Sukhinderdeep Singh, his father, who accompanied him.

On the way back to India, he said, “He went along with me to Kathmandu on 8th April and took a flight to Lukla from where his trek started the next day”.
“Each day he walked around 8-10 kms and temperatures dropped with every ascent he made. He walked and stayed in a Low Oxygen altitude in a Minus grade temperature for almost a week”, said his father who is working as an Administrator at Local Parmar Hospital.
A gynecologist, Teghbir’s mother Dr Manpreet Kaur said, “Diet played a very major role in his journey and he followed a strict diet schedule as laid by his coach”.
Thanking his Coach, Mother, His Grandparents, Family, friends for helping and encouraging him in his journey, she also thanked Sanvi Sood as she is the torch bearer for Mountaineering in the State.
His father informed that Teghbir singh is on his way back to Kathmandu and shall reach Ropar on 23rd April.
