It is notable that during the Hondh-Chillar Massacre 1984, that was part of a wider plan of the Sikh genocide 1984, a Sikh village named Hondh-Chillar (near Rewari, Haryana) was completely destroyed while 32 Sikhs, forming half of the population of the Hondh-Chillar village, that was a Sikh village in Haryana, was brutally killed.

It must be recalled that the massacre remained undiscovered till 2011 when a Sikh engineer named Manwinder Singh Giaspura, unearthed it. After almost 27 years the Haryana government formed a one-person-commission to investigate the matter. The T.P. Garg Commission is named after the judge conducting the inquiry. It must be noted that the commission does not possess any power to try or punish the culprits.

Seven people of Guddi Devi’s family, including her grandfather Gulab Singh, father Sardar Singh, two brothers – Harbhajan Singh and Dhan Singh, three sisters – Mira Bai, Surjeet Kaur and Dayawanti, were killed during the Hondh-Chillar massacre.
