May 4, 2017 | By

Geneva: Amnesty International a UK based human rights group here on Thursday (4th May) will table a report at the UN Human Rights Council.  This is part of what is known as the Universal Periodic Review which runs in a 4 year cycle. All UN member states come up for review every four years. It’s a peer review system where other UN members will give the country being reviewed feedback and recommendations. The country under review then formally accepts or rejects the recommendations.

The detailed report  along with the official statement from Amnesty International reads as follows.

India’s UPR session starts in Geneva on 4 May at 1430 local time (6 pm IST). It would be telecast live on UN WebTV. Amnesty India has a spokesperson available at UN in Geneva for interviews or bytes.
