Tarn Taran: An important meeting of the Khalra Mission Organization (KMO) was recently held. Following the meeting, Khalra Mission leaders including Advocate Jagdeep Singh Randhawa, Baba Darshan Singh, Harmandeep Singh Sarhali, Gurjeet Singh Tarsikka, Virsa Singh Bahila, Kabal Singh Jodhpur, and Satvinder Singh Palasaur announced that Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra will not contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly bye-election from Tarn Taran—or any other election.
The organization clarified that Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra had earlier contested the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary election in order to expose those responsible for state repression and to raise her voice for the betterment of Punjab. The Sikh Panth had extended unprecedented support to her in that context. The leaders stressed that contesting elections is not a profession for them, and that decision to enter electoral politics was made under extraordinary circumstances.
They expressed deep gratitude to the Sikh community and the people of Punjab for their continued support and reaffirmed their commitment to humbly contributing to the ongoing struggle against oppression and injustice.
When contacted by Sikh Siyasat News, a member of the Khalra family confirmed the development and stated that Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra fully endorses the decision taken by the Khalra Mission Organization (KMO).
It is notable that, following the demise of Tarn Taran MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal on 26 June 2025, a bye-poll for the vacant seat is expected in the coming months. There had been speculation that Akali Dal Waris Punjab De—a newly formed political party led by family members and supporters of NSA detainee Amritpal Singh—might field Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra as its candidate from Tarn Taran. The statement issued by the Khalra Mission Organization (KMO) appears to be a preemptive move to quell such speculation and clearly distance Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra from any upcoming electoral contests.
