On February 12 the NIA submitted a plea before the Special NIA Court in Mohali seeking jail transfer of Jagtar Singh Jaggi, Taljit Singh alias Jimmy Singh, Ramandeep Singh Bagga and Hardeep Singh Shera to Tihar Jail in Delhi. Quartet are booked by the NIA in various killings cases in Punjab.

As per NIA’s submission in the court the Bhartiya Janta Party led Central government has issued a notification to this effect and Congress party led Punjab government and Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi government have given their ‘no-objection’ for the said Jail transfers.

The Special NIA court of Mohali’s Additional Sessions Judge I Ms. Anshul Berry heard the arguments of the NIA and the defence and fixed February 16 as the court date to pronounce the verdict.

“We have opposed the NIA’s plea. Citing the case law of the Supreme Court of India regarding jail transfers, we argued that there was no point in shifting the arrested persons out of Punjab” said Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur while adding that they are not facing any case outside Punjab.

Meanwhile, the NIA court yesterday granted the 90 days extension to the NIA in order to file chargesheet in 3 cases being investigated by the agency in Punjab.

The investigation agencies are required to file chargesheets against any accused person with in 90 days of his arrest in a particular case but the NIA had urged the court to extend the 90 days period to 180 days in these cases.

Earlier last week the NIA had asked for 90 days extension to file chargesheet against Taljit Singh Jimmy, Hardeep Singh Shera and Ramandeep Singh Bagga for presenting chargesheet in case no. RC/18/DLI/17. The request was opposed by the defence but it was allowed by the Special NIA court of Ms. Anshul Berry yesterday.

Similarly, in case no. RC/22/DLI/17 the NIA also got 90 days extension from the NIA court to submit chargesheet against arrested Scottish citizen Jagtar Singh Jaggi, and the agency further secured 90 days extension for presenting chargesheet against Taljit Singh Jimmy in case RC/27/DLI/17.

The NIA has asked for further 90 days extension to file chargesheet in case RC/25/DLI/17 against Amaninder Singh, Manpreet Singh and Ravipal Singh.

The agency has sought similar extension in case RC/23/DLI/17 against Manpreet Singh and in case RC/22/DLI/17 against Anil Kala and Taljit Singh Jimmy, to file chargesheet.
