Amritsar: Detention under the National Security Act (NSA) has ended against Papalpreet Singh, a close associate of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh. Papalpreet Singh was detained by the police on April 10, 2023, from Punjab and subsequently sent to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under NSA.

Under the NSA, a person can be detained for up to a year on the same grounds, with the possibility of extension based on fresh grounds. Last year, the detention period of all 10 detainees, including Papalpreet Singh, was extended by the Punjab Government.

It is noteworthy that starting from March 18, 2023, a total of ten individuals, including Amritpal Singh, were sent to Dibrugarh Jail under the NSA. Apart from Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh, the others include Sarabjit Singh Kalsi alias Daljit Kalsi, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala, Harjeet Singh alias Chacha, Varinder Singh Fauji, Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias Pardhan Mantri Bajeke, Kulwant Singh Raoke, and Gurinderpal Singh alias Guri Aujla.

As the NSA terms for these detainees are expiring, they are being brought back to Punjab. With the expiration of NSA against Papalpreet Singh, he is expected to return to Punjab soon. Like others who have been brought back, Papalpreet Singh is also likely to face arrest in the 2023 Ajnala Police Station case.

When Will NSA End Against Amritpal Singh?

Amritpal Singh was arrested on April 23, 2023, under NSA. Consequently, it is anticipated that his NSA detention will end on April 22, 2024. Following the expiration of his NSA detention, he is also expected to be brought back to Punjab, where further legal proceedings may take place.
