Whistle Blower Questions British Government Cover up on 1984 Amritsar Massacre

London: Investigative journalist Phil Miller has raised questions about possible cover-up of British involvement in Amritsar massacre of June 1984.

In a write-up, published by Morning Star, Phil Miller said: “THE identities of civil servants who investigated British involvement in India’s [Darbar Sahib]* massacre will remain secret, despite concerns that they could have potentially tampered with key evidence”.

He noted that the anonymity order from the Information Commission means the government will not have to admit whether top officials active during the massacre were later allowed to control what files investigators saw. He said that the commissioner made the ruling after Whitehall claimed its staff could be targeted on social media which “may cause them distress”.

It may be recalled here that in 2014, newly declassified secret documents of British government revealed that Margaret Thatcher had sent SAS officials to advise Indian armed forces regarding their plan to attack Darbar Sahib in Amritsar.

The revelations led to outrage among the Sikhs in England and the then British PM David Cameron had launched a review that was termed a mere eyewash by the Sikhs who are pushing for full public inquiry into the matter.
