India Denies Permission To East Punjab Government Delegation to Visit Pakistan

October 31, 2019 | By

Chandigarh: The Government of India (GoI) has denied political go ahead to the delegation of East Punjab Government for observing 550th Prakash Gurpurb in Pakistan. A release issued by the Government of East Punjab said that GoI’s denial doesn’t bodes well for the federal structure and is unconstitutional also.

In a written press communique (copy available with Sikh Siyasat News) East Punjab’s Cabinet Minister Charanjit Singh Channi while taking the Union Government led by the BJP and it’s alliance partner SAD (Badal) to task,  said that it is purely due to the political shenanigans of both that the Lok Sabha MPs, Ministers as well as the MLAs from Punjab were not allowed to hold Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Sri Nankana Sahib, by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.

It seems that the Punjab government on the one side and the Indian government on the other are racing for claiming credit for opening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor; and this race is causing this type of contradictions, rifts and accusations. It also show the subordinate status and position of the state government and its ministers as they can’t visit the neighbouring country without the permissions of Central power.
