Open Letter: Insulting the Hunger Strike of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh by terming it “Farce” in “Hindustan Times”

December 27, 2013 | By

Ludhaina, Punjab (December 25, 2013): Sukhdeep Singh of Youth Khalsa Federation has written an open letter to Pawan Sharma, reporter of Hindustan Times (HT) who reported a highly biased report against the ongoing Sikh agitation seeking release of Sikh political prisoners from Indian jails.

The letter by Sukhdeep Singh, a copy of which is available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) reads as follows:-

Date: 26 December 2013

Dear Mr. Pawan Sharma,

“Wahe Guruji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guruji Ki Fateh”

I read your article “Was it a fast or Farce?” in a leading newspaper “Hindustan Times” dated 26 December 2013. I was surprised to read this article and couldn’t understand that what message you would like to send through this article.

First point which you have written is that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh is fit and fine even after the fast of 41 days. First thing I would like to clear you that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh was not on fast, he was on hunger strike against the partial justice system. Second thing is that he is a person of rules and dignity. CCTV cameras were installed in the open tent where he stayed for so many days and even use open space covered with clothes for his bathing. If you people have any doubt than before publishing anything in newspaper you should properly enquire about the matter. Second thing is that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh is not a Sikh of any Som, Mangal, Budh, Veer, Shukar or Shani, he is a Sikh of Guru Granth Sahib. So before starting his agitation he prayed in front of his Guru to the God Almighty for his success in mission. So he got strength from God – The Akal Purakh Waheguru. With God’s blessings he got for what he was on hunger strike for so many days and now the frustrated media can write or show anything is of no use. We Sikhs never wanted to use hard wordings to anyone because we are not taught like this, but it is your own wording “Fast or Farce?” which compels me to write and tell you about the truth. It is miracle which you people couldn’t understand, it is a miracle of Ardaas or Prayer.

Second point which you have written is that “Bhai Gurbaksh Singh was like a pawn in the hands of handful radical leaders”. It is totally wrong. This misinformation is the result of the absence of national media from the venue. During this agitation Bhai Gurbaksh Singh made one statement almost everyday that no one is authorized to make any decision in his five member committee. Only he was the decision maker and rest everyone in committee has power only to interact with people on his behalf and listen to their suggestions.

Dear Pawanji, you are a part of very responsible profession and truth is the base of your profession. It is an old saying that “Pen is mightier than Sword”. So it is a request to use your Pen in a true spirit of journalism and please do not become like a pawn in the hands of the handful of Anti-National agencies. Be truthful to your profession.

God Bless You. I am sorry if any of my word hurts you.

“Wahe Guruji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guruji Ki Fateh”

Servant of Guru Panth,
Sukhdeep Singh
Youth Khalsa Federation
