Rewari, Haryana (July 06, 2013): It is learnt that the Justice T.K. Garg commission, that is ‘investigating’ the Hondh-Chillar Massacre of November 1984, held a hearing on July 05, 2013 that was attended by members of the Hondh Chillar Co-ordination Committee, besides the victims of the Hondh-Chillar Massacre.

As per information available with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) on 5 July hearing the commission held cross-examination of Balwant Singh (s/o Kartar Singh), one of the survivors of the massacre in which 32 Sikhs were brutally murdered in Rewari District of Haryana in November 1984.

It is notable that Hondh Chillar was a Sikh village near Rewari (Haryana) that was completely destroyed during the Sikh Genocide 1984 and almost half of the population of this small village was massacred, while others – who somehow escaped the genocide, were permanently displaced from this village.

The Hondh-Chillar Massacre was never investigated by the Indian authorities and it was only in 2011, when the world came to know about this massacre as a Sikh engineer, named Manwinder Singh Giaspura, employed at Gurgaon revealed the matter.

On 5 July, 2013 hearing Advocate Ranjit Singh Yadav, the counsel of victims, opposed the assessment presented before the commission by the local administration and raised a demand for reassessment to be done with participation of victims, counsels and the village panchayat. As per information the Justice Garg carefully heard the matter and directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner (DC) to make reassessment.

July 19, 2013 is fixed as next date of hearing.
